Benign Cysts and Tumours of the Skin
Benign cysts and tumors of the skin are growths that are non-cancerous and generally do not pose a significant health risk.
However, it's important to have them evaluated by a dermatologist or healthcare professional to confirm their benign nature and rule out any cancerous or malignant growths.
SOLUTIONS MAY INCLUDE:
Observation: In many cases, if the cyst or tumor is small, painless, and not causing any discomfort or cosmetic concerns, the doctor may recommend simply monitoring it over time. They will assess its growth and any changes in appearance.
Drainage or Aspiration: For cysts that are filled with fluid, your doctor may choose to drain or aspirate the fluid using a needle and syringe. This can provide temporary relief and reduce the size of the cyst. However, in some cases, the cyst may reoccur.
Injection or Medications: In certain cases, your doctor may inject medications, such as corticosteroids, into the cyst or tumor to reduce inflammation, shrink its size, or prevent further growth.
Surgical Excision: If the cyst or tumor is large, causing discomfort, or cosmetically undesirable, surgical excision may be recommended. The procedure involves removing the entire growth along with its capsule or surrounding tissue. Local anesthesia is typically used, and stitches are used to close the incision.
Diathermy is a medical procedure that uses high-frequency electric currents to generate heat and destroy or remove tissue. Diathermy can be an effective treatment option for small benign skin tumors, such as skin tags, small papillomas, or seborrheic keratoses.
Laser Treatment: Some types of benign skin growths, such as seborrheic keratosis or sebaceous hyperplasia, may respond well to laser treatment. The laser destroys the abnormal tissue, promoting healthy skin regeneration.
